Tell us a bit of your background and your journey into the field, and what got you interested?
My name is Naila Abdul Karim, and I was born in the “Land of the Gazelle”- aka Abu Dhabi. Growing up, I have always been curious and fascinated by people and their behavior, which led me to embark on my journey in Psychology. Academically, I have completed my Bachelors in Psychology from Mahatma Gandhi University and Masters in Business Psychology from Heriot-Watt University. I have been fortunate over the past decade to explore and expand my curiosity in people by working in the HR & Talent Management sector. I must admit, over time, my curiosity and fascination has only grown. If you catch me outside of work, I’m an adventurous traveler – 28 countries and counting, a foodie and an avid lover of Latin dancing!
What is your area of expertise?
I’m deeply passionate about people development and enabling solutions that help people navigate their careers and life through achieving their goals. Through the design and application of various talent strategies and behavioral tools, I have been able to do so in the pursuit of identifying and strengthening the capabilities of people within organizations. I have worked across a broad spectrum of talent solutions like talent assessment and development, coaching, psychometrics, leadership development and career transition. I also have led various localization projects across the Middle East & Africa, and the Asia Pacific while working with incredible teams from various ethnicities and backgrounds.
Why do you think digital coaching will help the Asia Pacific region?
Having been a coach and being coached, I have experienced the effects of coaching first-hand. It is such a powerful tool that not only support’s one’s development, it also helps improve their wellbeing, mental health, resilience, performance and many more. Imagine enabling this phenomenal tool digitally – it shatters barriers once limited by geographical boundaries. Today digital coaching enables scalability, accessibility, long term learning, boosts D&I and even ROI on company culture. It is even more crucial for Asia Pacific, as it is a highly diverse region, making it even more vital to equip organizations through their people to navigate effectively in times of disruption. The global pandemic has forced a shift different from what many leaders have built their careers around previously. Therefore, I firmly believe coaching helps bridge that gap by providing them with needed support and helping them grow vertically.
Why are you excited to be part of the CoachHub team?
As previously mentioned, people development is a cause that is very close to the heart. At CoachHub, I get to work at making this a reality through its core mission of democratizing coaching for all people of all career levels worldwide. As a Senior Behavioral Scientist, my role is to enable this mission by connecting the science with the practice while leveraging psychology, coaching, research and business expertise every day to create the best, most evidence-based solutions for our teams and clients. I’m thrilled and fortunate to be part of a super talented and diverse team, and together we work toward achieving this incredible mission.
